Our School Day

The Daily Routine

Arrival at school

  • If you are arriving by car, please note that there is no dropping off or parking on the school grounds between 8.30 and 9.00 am or between 3.00 and 3.30 pm
  • Staff are on duty from 8.40am.
  • Only children who arrive by taxi or on the school minibus may come in before 8.40am. They are allowed through the front door and go straight to class.
  • Breakfast club have their own arrangements.
  • The school day is 6 hours and 15 minutes long.

Between 8.40am and 8.55am

  • Robins need to go through the hall door and then to class. A member of staff will welcome them.
  • Kingfishers enter through the door to the right of the main door.
  • Eagles enter through the front gate, turn right and come through their fire escape
  • In the event of poor weather children should not arrive at school before 8.40am.

Late arrivals

  • After 8:55am, children should be taken to the school office so that their name can be marked in the register.

We request that parents do not come into school at the start of the day unless there is an urgent need to talk to a member of staff

Reading books should be dropped off on Friday and new books collected on a Monday.

Once in the classroom, the children place their book bag in their relevant group drawer and the contents of their book bags into the relevant boxes. Reply slips and envelopes containing money should be put in the red drop-box outside the school office.

Please ensure that any items brought from home such as lunch boxes, water bottles and book bags are clearly labelled with the child's name and class.

When children have sorted out their bags and/or homework books they will join in with an activity decided by their teacher until registration.

The end of the day

  • Parents should collect children at 3:10
  • Parents should always let school staff know via the the school office if arrangements for collecting their child at the end of the day are changed e.g. a different person is collecting the child or the child is going home with a friend.

Bed Time

School can be an intense experience for a child (especially for younger children) and can leave them very tired.

We strongly encourage parents to enforce a consistent night time routine and an early bedtime which provides a good night's rest.

Snacks and Milk

We consider it important for children to eat healthily and therefore only allow fruit and vegetables (preferably fresh) to be eaten at break times.

Children in Reception, Years 1 and 2 are given free fresh fruit just before morning playtime. At this time they also have a drink of water or milk. Milk is ordered by  parents directly through 'Cool Milk'. It is free for children under the age of five and older children receiving or who are entitled to free school meals may also be entitled to free milk. For children over the age of five, it can be ordered but payment is required. Please apply online at http://www.coolmilk.com or ask for an application from at the school office.

Summer months

During summer months, it is particularly important to provide children with a sun hat and sun cream that must be applied before arrival at school.

Reading books

After children have been assessed in reading we will send home a reading or picture book a least twice a week.

We ask parents to hear them read or tell a story from the pictures and make a comment in their reading record book.
